Detailed Team information

Marianne Andersen
ClubKonnerud
Born date26.03.1980
Born placeDrammen
Info/BiographyOne of the absolutely top women orienteers with a lot of international silver medals - but still lacks the individual gold medal. In WOC 2010 on homeground she took another silver medal and two bronze medals. A lot of injury problems in the 2011-season - nearly not running at all from January until July. In 2006 she was pushing Simone for the victory in both middle and long, and two more medals came in Ukraina (bronze). Puts in the largest amount of hours training of all orienteering women, more than 900 hours a year! This is also more than almost all the men...Is very much a training product as well. Started with orienteering late - tour orienteering was her first meet with the sport. She did not make the JWOC team as a junior. Still long distance is probably her best, but having worked with her running style she got her reward with a silver in the EOC-sprint 2006. Working part time after finishing her studies in Trondheim. Some injury-problems during 2006. Often trains before 7 in the morning and has learned herself finnish... An achilles-injury restricted her running in 2008, and she missed EOC due to this injury. Came back in time for WOC 2008 for another silver medal, this time on the long distance. In 2009 she was fighting in the top all of the season, being three times runner-up in WC-races. After four WOC-silvers - she took another silver medal at the middle distance in WOC 2009 - before finally taking the gold medal in the relay along with Anne Margrethe Hausken and Betty Ann Bjerkreim Nilsen. She finished the 2009 championships with another silver medal in the long distance. Some problems in the start of 2010 with too much training. Nominated for the Orienteering Achievement of the year in 2009 for finally winning a gold medal in the World Champs after 14 Silver and Bronze medals in major championships, thanks to a fantastic last leg on the WOC Relay (Also: Winning Silver medals in WOC Long and Middle). Nominated for the Orienteering Achievement of the year in 2008 after coming back and taking a silver medal in WOC Long distance after lots of injury trouble all of the year - running most of the WOC Long distance race with only one contact lens.

Info/BiographyDouble junior world champion from 2005, who took the step directly into the senior elite with a 6th place on the middle distance in WOC 2006. Strong runner in the forest. In youth and junior classes she played handball in winter. Missed WOC 2007 after a nasty injury to her ear during the WC longdistance in Sweden. Was back in 2010 with a 10th spot overall in the first edition of the Nordic Orienteering Tour in 2010 - and a 3rd place in the second last World Cup race in 2010. Carl Waaler Kaas
ClubBækkelaget (NOR)
Born date28.07.1982
Born placeOslo (NOR)
Info/BiographyFor many he was the big surprise winner at the World Championships in Trondheim in 2010 - winning the middle distance ahead of Peter Öberg and Thierry Gueorgiou. However, Waaler Kaas had prepared very well for the championships, and the ones who had followed him closely knew that he was very capable of taking the gold medal. Was on his way for a regular place in the national team in 2006, which included a bronze medal in the EOC-relay. But for the rest of 2006 and for 2007 his body did not responded well to his training and his progress stopped. Back for his WOC-debut in 2008, getting a strong 11th place after replacing Olav Lundanes on short notice. Looking to have taken a big step in 2009, and got his forst WC-victory on home soil in Oslo in June. Physically strong runner, but surprisingly losing out in the qualification for the long distance at WOC 2009.

Olav Lundanes
ClubHalden SK (NOR)
Born date11.11.1987
Info/BiographyVery determined orienteer - trying 100% to get the best orienteer in the world. Achieved his big goal in the World Champs in Trondheim in 2010 over the long distance by taking a clear gold medal - but still wants more. Junior-star who took two gold and two silver at JWOC 2007, he also won the long distance and the relay in 2005, not yet 18 years old. Ran sprint at WOC 2007 still as a junior. His big strength is in the forest on longer races, he nevertheless finished 4th in the forest sprint at WOC 2009. Training a lot - steadily improving his orienteering technique. Changed to Halden SK ahead of 2009-season. Finished 5th overall on the first edition of the Nordic Orienteering Tour in 2010. Nominated for the Junior of the year 2006 for one silver and two bronze at JWOC 2006.

Finished his studies in economy 2005. Since then a professional orienteer with some smaller part time work. Had three altitude-camps ahead of WOC 2006- two in winter in South-Africa and one in summer in Italy, but in 2007 he prepared on home ground. Was out of shape in EOC 2008, but came back with a World Cup victory in Norway in late June 2008, and continued his success with a silver medal at the long distance in WOC 2008 in Olomouc. In WOC 2009 he was on his way to a medal on the last leg of the relay for Norway, but stopped along with France and Czech Republic to help an injured Martin Johansson (Sweden), giving up his medal chances. Nordberg decided to skip both EOC and the Nordic Orienteering Tour in 2010, making WOC his first big international appearance. Here he took another silver medal behind Olav Lundanes. A soccerfan with special passion for Odd Grenland (NOR) and Liverpool (ENG). Nominated for Orienteering Achievement of the year 2008 after climbing two more big steps on the ladder.
