Made his WOC-debut 2007 with a 25th place on the long distance - improved that to a 7th place at the long distance in 2008. After being DSQ on the long distance in NOC 2009, he showed his form by taking fourth place on the middle distance. In WOC 2009 Anjala was on the Finnish WOC relay team which took a Bronze medal - however as France, Norway and Czech Republic stopped on the last leg to help Sweden\'s Martin Johansson, this bronze medal did not taste as well as it could have for the Finnish team.

Finally won an individual WOC-medal by taking third place in Japan, and got one step closer to the gold in Denmark with silver in the middle race. Has made all his best international results on Middle and relay. Lived in Halden since 2000-2006, before moving back to Finland and now running for Tampereen Pyrintö. Jarkko was a very important part of Haldens relay-successes. Many of Jarkko runs on "the long night" are legendary.

A major break thru in his first senior season by taking the gold medal in Finland 2001 on the middle distance. Well known for never using a compass (he doesn\'t even bring it with him). Never was back on the very top in the World Cup since 2002 - stabilizing in the top 10 but seldom getting in the top 6. Took an 8th place at WOC middle in 2010. Living together with Minna Kauppi.

Info/Biography[Info not updated in 2012]
Health problems in 2011 - but ready just in time for WOC 2011 in France - but strong enough? Former junior-star who is now one of the big queens of orienteering. A fast runner, who has constantly improved stability in her performances. Took her first major title winning EOC 2006- and then steered Finland to the relay gold in WOC 2006. Individually her best races were first on the middle distance, but Kauppi came second to Simone Niggli on the WC-long distance in Sweden 2007- a race Minna should have won if she had chosen the right lane to the finish. Brought her club Asikkalan Raikas to a victory in the 2007 Venla-relay. Got her first individual WOC-gold on the long distance in 2007, shared with Heli Jukkola. In 2008 she got two more golds, winning middle from an early start number, and with the Finnish relay team. In 2009 she won three out of the four first WC-races and the World Games sprint, but did not manage to match those results at WOC. Winner of the Orienteering Achievement of the year in 2008 for winning Gold at both WOC middle and relay, and silver at the WOC sprint - thus becoming the Queen of the World Orienteering Champs in Olomouc - on top when it really counts! Nominated for the Orienteering Achievement of 2006 for as anchor bringing Finland to gold medals in Relays both at the World Championships and European Championships.
