Extreme sprint talent in his early senior years, but gradually improved also in forest orienteering up to a level where he won the overall World Cup the first time in 2012 and also World Cup races in all disciplines. As of June 2017, Matthias Kyburz has won 6 WOC medals, of which 4 are individual medals. In addition he has won 2 EOC medals, of which both are individual medals. With his World Champs title over the middle distance in 2016, Kyburz had taken WOC gold medals in sprint, middle, relay and sprint relay, and as June 2017 only the long distance gold medal was missing.
